Tulsa World is hosting a special community forum to openly discuss Adverse Childhood Experiences in Oklahoma. Joining us for this evening are:

 

Dr. Gerard Clancy, President of University of Tulsa

 

Kristin Atchley, Mid-Del School District director of Student Services & Childhood Trauma Expert

 

Guerin Emig, Sports Columnist & Project Writer for the Tulsa World

Dr. Gerard Clancy, President of University of Tulsa



Gerard Clancy serves as the 20th President of The University of Tulsa. Prior to assuming the presidency, Clancy served as Vice President for Health Affairs, Dean of the Oxley College of Health Sciences and held the Oxley Foundation Chair in Community Medicine, all at the University of Tulsa. He serves on numerous Boards across Oklahoma and is the 2015 Chairman of the Board of the Tulsa Area United Way. He continues to work at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research and continues to see psychiatric patients. Dr. Clancy’s areas of expertise include health disparities, health care delivery system and health professions education transformation, severe mental illness and creative talent development, retention and recruitment for regional economic development.

 

Kristin Atchley, Mid-Del School District director of Student Services & Childhood Trauma Expert

Kristin Atchley is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, where she received her Masters Degree in Human Development and Family Science, specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is a licensed Marital and Family Therapist. Kristin is the Director of Student Services in Mid-Del Public Schools. She has spent the past 11 years in public education as a school counselor in elementary and a student advocacy coordinator in secondary schools. Prior to moving to Mid-Del Schools she served as the Executive Director of Counseling at the Oklahoma State Department of Education. As a survivor of the May 20th, 2013 tornado, Kristin has dedicated her career to systematic crisis response, trauma-informed education, and promoting the importance of a whole-child approach to learning. She is devoted to helping all students find success through hard times and difficult circumstances.

 

Guerin Emig, Sports Columnist & Project Writer for the Tulsa World

Guerin Emig joined the Tulsa World in 2004. He lived in Norman and covered the Oklahoma Sooners until 2016, when he became a sports columnist and relocated to Tulsa. He loves to write, to travel and to go to games, but nothing makes him happier than spending time with his family. He met his wife, Christy, at Booker T. Washington High School. They have two children, Gretchen and Holden. All four Emigs are University of Kansas graduates or students.
